This was the story of two games. In the first, the Eagles went up 3-0 after a home run by Cam Leary, and got stellar pitching from Michael Farinelli. In the second of the two, Todd Interdonato made a questionable pitching change with the bases loaded after 4.2 hardworking innings in which Farinelli escaped two jams in the first and the third innings. He put in Evan Moore to face the “last batter of the inning.” The ball was softly hit to Moore, but he made a looping high throw that went over first baseman Nick Wang. Two runs were driven in in the process. Then a single out to right field scored two more Seminoles runs.

The game was basically over by that point, and the Eagles lost 12-4 to a scorching hot FSU that is number 14 in the country. Their record fell to a respectable 16-12 on the season.

FSU baseball is very good at baseball. Starting with their pitching, Jamie Arnold showed why he is a top-ten pitching prospect in baseball. Seven innings, nine strikeouts, two earned runs. He also made a throwing error on a play at second base that led to the Eagles three-run home run. It wasn't a good day for pitchers making force outs, they went one for three.

Next, their lineup was essentially flawless. Eight out of nine players in it notched at least one hit. Jaime Ferrer hit two home runs, one shouldn’t have happened. Jordan Fisse was brought in during the sixth inning with runners on first and third and two outs. Ferrer stamped the ball way out into left-center field. That made the score 10-3 FSU.

Two pitching changes with two outs were the story of this game. Back at it tomorrow at 2:00 on WZBC Newton.
